Questions to ask about private-well plumbing

A private-well request should distinguish water-delivery faults, equipment work, and questions about drinking-water quality.

Describe what changed

No water, uneven delivery, and a pump that starts and stops repeatedly can have different causes. Tell the provider when the change began and whether it happens while fixtures are in use. Share pump, tank, and control records if you have them, but stay clear of wet electrical equipment.

Check that the provider handles the system

Ask whether they work on the actual well equipment or only indoor plumbing. A pump repair, a source assessment, and water testing may need different services. Confirm that scope before arranging a visit so the person attending can address the question you need answered.

Keep water quality as a separate question

Restoring normal flow doesn't establish drinking-water quality. For that concern, use appropriate testing and public-health guidance, including the EPA resources below. Ask what a test covers and seek qualified help to interpret results before choosing treatment equipment.
